An Exclusive interview with Destiny Malibu

Could you share the story behind your latest song and what inspired its creation?

My latest track, “Say My Name,” dives into the crucial topic of mental health, shedding light on my personal struggles. It serves as an anthem of hope, emphasizing that genuine happiness comes from within, not external factors like wealth or popularity. The song resonates with those facing similar challenges, reminding them they’re not alone. It encourages reaching out for help and being there for one another. Combining both singing and elements of rap allowed me to share intricate details of my story, which I think adds fun, unexpected dynamic changes. The positive response so far has been incredible, and I’m grateful that people connect with the message.

How do you approach the process of songwriting, and are there any specific themes or emotions you tend to explore in your music?

A recurring theme in all of my music is finding the silver lining in life’s challenges. Through my music and my mental health podcast, “The Destiny Malibu Podcast,” strives to explore the complexities of our human experience and how they impact mental well-being. “Say My Name” is a direct reflection of my personal journey through mental health struggles, and it sets the tone for the uplifting messaging that will continue to embody my upcoming album.

As an indie musician, how do you navigate the balance between creative freedom and commercial appeal?
